Cassie has lost both of her parents within a 2 month time frame. At 25, she's rather young to handle this on her own. Her father's death, February 17th, was not entirely surprising as he had been unwell for some time. But her mother's death was a very sudden shock.
Sunday morning, Cassie and I couldn't get ahold of Chris, her mom. We decided to drive over to her house to check on her, but she wasn't answering the door. When we got inside, we found her already passed on, and have been trying to wrap our heads around everything that has happened since.
Because Chris was only 54, they have to do an investigation to figure out what happened. We still haven't heard back what the autopsy and toxicology reports show. Waiting, seems to be the hardest part. They did tell us that they think she passed sometime Thursday, but that's all we know for now.
Due to this sudden loss, Cassie has taken a week off of work to handle the funeral arrangements and everything else. But because she's only considered part time that's a week without getting paid.
Chris left behind a house and a car. The house is in very bad shape and has some much needed repairs (there's a large problem with the foundation). It is also needing to be cleaned out before the repairs can be made, so we're wanting to rent a dumpster. The yard that's attached to the house, bought separately a long time ago, is also behind on its taxes. The car is in pretty good shape, but also needs several minor repairs.
Chris did have a life insurance policy through her work, but who knows how long it will be before any of that money is available. We're asking for $2,000. This would go towards Chris' funeral costs (including her cremation and urn), fixing the car, fixing/cleaning the house, any back taxes owed, loss of income, and, if there's anything left over, the remainder would go towards getting therapy for Cassie.
ANY help you can give would be greatly appreciated. We're even happy to accept help with cleaning if you can't afford to give any money. Between this pandemic and now losing both of her parents in such a short span of time, Cassie needs help. Thank you in advance. I'll try to keep this page updated about when we'll be headed to the house to clean and also when we learn more about what happened to Chris.
