It is with great sadness that we lost our beloved Kenan Powell on Friday, October 28th. Kenan, a Portland/Vancouver native, was the epitome of a single dad, raising his beautiful daughter, Kamelai, by himself. He was also a very proud dad to his son, Khalil. His children were his most proudest accomplishments. Kenan was also the only child and son to Karen Powell, who despite the miles, ensured he showered her with love.
You could often catch Kenan at the basketball court, however, he was well know within the community as Officer Powell. Having worked for Clark County Correctional Facility and most notably, the Portland State University Police. His love for protecting and serving his community was one of his highest priorities after being Super Dad!
Kenan’s passing was unexpected and untimely. He had just flown to Mississippi the day prior to help his mother plan and bury his grandmother, Ella Virginia Powell. Unfortunately, his mom, daughter, and son now have to plan and put to rest two loved ones.
I know Kenan’s big personality, love of sarcasm, and heart of gold touched many. Please keep his family and friends lifted in strength and prayers as they navigate this difficult journey ahead. All donations are greatly appreciated and will go towards his memorial and to help ensure his children are immediately taken care of.
In the words of Kenan Powell himself, “Don’t waste time lamenting the life you feel you could’ve/should’ve had. Focus your energy into giving yourself the life you can still have. Learn from the past. Live in the present, plan for the future. Do something everyday that contributes to getting you closer to where you ultimately want to be.” - KPIV
