Memorial Benches for Grant Waitz

Hi Everyone -
In honor of what would have been Grant’s 18th birthday, I am starting this fundraiser to purchase two memorial benches. One will be placed at the Ann Arbor Skate Park and the other will be placed at the Riley Skate Park in Farmington Hills. Grant loved to skateboard and had many friends at both of these Parks. I was touched by a comment previously made, after his death. The person commented that he didn’t really know Grant, but always saw him at the Riley Skate Park. Grant would always smile at him. He said he was a bit of an outsider and didn’t really know anyone there, but the smile from Grant always made him feel welcome.
I have had so many friends reach out wanting to do something in honor of Grant’s memory. I felt this was the best way to allow others to participate in something that was close to Grant’s heart and will serve as a memorial. If we don’t raise the full amount needed for both benches, we will pay the remainder ourselves. If we do raise the full amount needed, the fundraiser will be closed, as we will not be accepting more than needed for this project.
I appreciate all of the love and support for me and my family over the past year. I miss Grant every day, as I know many of you do as well. I hope these benches will allow some of his friends to find some comfort, while taking a rest at the parks.
