John Sokol’s Memorial Bench
The angels carried my Dad, John J. Sokol, up to heaven Thursday morning, March 19, at the age of 70.
One of my Dad’s favorite things to do was go for a walk. Whether he was alone or beside family and friends, he loved walking.
The Old Plank Road Trail in Will County was one of his favorites. He walked that path countless times, no matter the weather.
Dad’s goal was to walk 1,000 miles in 2019. Nearly all of those miles were logged while the cancer unknowingly ravaged his body.
I’ve never known my Dad to quit at anything. This feat was no different.
With 41 miles left to attain his ultimate goal, Dad kept walking - even after his diagnosis in November.
Ultimately my Dad walked 1,001 miles in 2019. He walked that last mile with my mom by his side, supporting each other as they had always done throughout their 45 years of marriage.
Rest In Peace, Dad. We love you. ❤️
Due to COVID-19, all wake, funeral, and burial services have been postponed indefinitely.
Please help our family begin the healing process by donating towards a new bench in my dad’s memory on Old Plank Road Trail.
