We are raising funds to honor the memory of John D. Gerber, a true champion of the Kearney community. John was an entrepreneur, an avid sailor, and a passionate supporter of youth—especially those involved in skateboarding. His commitment to helping young people thrive was evident in everything he did, from running his skate shop to encouraging kids to pursue their passions. John’s influence on the local skateboarding scene began in the 1970s, and his legacy continues to inspire new generations.
To celebrate John’s life and the impact he had, we are placing a memorial bench at Apollo Skate Park in Kearney, Nebraska. This park was a special place for John, as it brought together the community he cared so deeply about. The bench will serve as a place for people to sit, reflect, and remember the history of skateboarding in Kearney—a history that John helped shape through his dedication and generosity.
In the last week of his life, John shared, “Of the things I’m most proud of, the skate shop and investing in the kids’ lives was my favorite thing.” We hope this bench will be a lasting tribute to his spirit and a reminder of the positive change one person can make. Your support will help us create a space where John’s legacy lives on and where future generations can be inspired by his example.
