Donation protected
IN REMEMBRANCE OF HELEN ELIZABETH DRAGUNAS
Born: 2/12/1974 in York, England; educated through university level
Passed: 6/11/2017 in Baltimore County, Maryland at 43 years of age
She was married, to Anthony Dragunas Jr., for 19 years. Helen had one child, Isabella Dragunas (now 9 years old). Isabella attends Jacksonville Elementary School.
Helen was a resident of Jacksonville, Maryland for 16 years, when she passed, after a three year, well fought, battle with cancer.
She frequented Sweet Air Park often with Isabella. They both enjoyed the playground and the park’s serenity. Helen had many friends in the Jacksonville community.
Helen worked for The Goelet Corporation at their farm in Sparks Glencoe, Maryland.
Initially, she was a nanny to the Goelet’s three girls. As the girls grew up, she became a personal assistant to the Goelet family and helped run the farm. Her duties were: farm personnel management, accounts payable, supply acquisition and, at times, comforter to the farm animals She was known to stay up all night to bottle feed lambs that no longer had a mother’s support. She took in baby goats until they could fend for themselves.
In Jacksonville, Helen was active at Jacksonville Elementary School, helping with various school events. One of which was manning the Great Britain table during International Day. She also helped teachers by participating in school field trips. Teachers and friends also helped her when she most needed it.
Because of Isabella, Helen was very active in the Daisy chapter in the Jacksonville area, as well as The Little Gym and EMpowered Dance Class. She was well known and loved by Jacksonville area residents: neighbors, school teachers, students, and mothers.
Because of her sweet charm, British accent and the early job as a nanny, she was often referred to as “Mary Poppins” – even by the priest at her memorial church service.
She is greatly missed by friends and family. By erecting a memorial bench at Sweet Air Park, we will help keep her memory going. She will still have a presence in the Park she loved.
The park has estimated that the bench will cost $3,500. If more funds are collected than needed, the excess will be donated to St Jude Children’s Research Fund.
Alison Dragunas (Helen’s sister-in-law) and Tony Dragunas Sr. (Helen’s father-in-law) will be in charge of distribution of funds raised: to Carroll Manor Recreation Council at Sweet Air Park and to St. Jude’s charity.
