Memorial Bench for Charl Castelyn in Prospect Park Brooklyn
Donation protected
As we approach the first anniversary of Charl’s passing, after his long battle with brain cancer on November 27, we remember Charl as a loving husband, a dedicated friend, and a passionate teacher. Charl’s curiosity and adventurous spirit, his sincere kindness and warmth, his sharp sense of style, and his ever-present deadpan humor touched everyone who knew him. His absence leaves a hole in our hearts, but the memories of him continue to inspire us.
I am deeply grateful to those who contributed to Charl's GoFundMe last year. Your support enabled us to provide him with the best possible medical care, helped with living expenses while he was unable to work, and covered costs after his passing, including funeral and memorial expenses and any outstanding medical bills.
In the coming year, I plan to organize a memorial for Charl’s cremated remains. During his life, he mentioned the idea of having his ashes scattered in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. I am looking to raise funds to purchase a Memorial Bench dedicated to Charl and to hold a ceremony for the scattering of his ashes. The cost of a new Commemorative Bench in Prospect Park is $10,000. Any additional funds raised will go toward the necessary permits and a Memorial Service. Initially, I planned to cover the Memorial Bench and other expenses myself. However, after Charl’s death, I faced unexpected challenges. There was to an error with Charl’s Death Benefit, allowing someone else to claim a policy that Charl and I had expected and planned for. Despite this, I remain committed to honoring Charl’s life as I originally planned.
