Memorial Bell Tower

The sound of a bell holds special significance for firefighters. Historically, the toll of a bell summoned members to the station, signaled the beginning of a shift, notified departments of a call for help, and indicated a call was completed and the unit had returned to the station. Each year the Fire Museum of Memphis utilizes its bell tower, located 65 ft off the ground atop the museum building, to honor fallen firefighters from our area. Fifty-five brave men have given their lives in the line of duty.

Recent snowstorms, heavy rain, and harsh weather have rusted and are weakening the tower and the bell used to show respect to these fallen heroes. This tower and its bell are in desperate need of preservation. The metal tower is rusting in multiple spots and needs to be sanded down, primed, and repainted to keep the metal strong like the firefighters it represents. The bell needs to be repaired as well so that it can proudly ring out once again to honor 55 heroes.

Each day hundreds of thousands of firefighters across the country go to work selflessly and give 100% of themselves to protecting the citizens of their town and this country.

The Fire Museum of Memphis' mission is to teach fire safety and prevention, life safety and reduce the loss of life and property in case of a fire, and to honor the history of the Memphis Fire Department. With your help, we can honor the 55 firefighters who gave their all.
