Obituary

From an early age, Sukenty was always bright and ambitious. She had a wonderful life that brought her to places all over the world. She was born in Medan, Indonesia and completed her secondary school and junior college in Singapore. She attended University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. She was 1 of 3 girls in her graduating class.

She met her husband Emilio on a summer trip to Puerto Rico and there, they created a beautiful life together for the next 21 years with their 4 children. Sukenty wore many hats in life, along with being a beloved mother and wife, she also diligently managed her husband’s family business for 35 years. She made a lot of lasting friendships during those years and her employees always revered her.

After her husband passed away in 2002, she brought her children to Georgia so that she could be closer to her family. She bought a home where she lived together with her mother and her children while they were in school. She was always surrounded lovingly by her sisters and brother. She loved to cook for her family, especially during the holidays. She enjoyed hiking, line dancing, and tending to her plants. She was well-known for her gift of languages. She knew many, including English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, and Indonesian.

Her children were the biggest source pride in life. She took care of each one of them on her own after her husband passed. She is proud of all their accomplishments as they all are grown and working now. She devoted all her life to her kids and was always the happiest when they were around her.

Sukenty was a dedicated member of her church, Atlanta Chinese Baptist Church. She loved spending time and sharing with her sisters and brothers in Christ. She often used her gift with languages to help interpret in church, and enjoyed baking desserts every week for her congregation. Church and serving the Lord has always been a big part of her life

Her heart was made of gold, and her kindness was unmatched. Her selfless love and willingness to help others touched many lives. There are few who did not feel the goodness of her presence.

Sukenty will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her, though there is a measure in comfort in knowing that she has now been reunited with her family that preceded her, including her husband and father.

Sukenty is survived by her four children, Edmund, Stanley, Cindy, and Jany, her mother Annie Djohan, her brother James Tio, and her sisters Shirley Tio, Mimi Tio, Lara Djohan, and Linda Mascolo.
