Memorial and Funeral for Colin Black

Donation protected
Anyone that knew Colin, knew that he had a hard shell and a soft heart. He was a giant teddy bear who would give you the shirt off his own back if you really needed it. He loved his family and his friends, and if you were in his inner circle, he'd fight for you. He was funny. He loved making people laugh, especially at the dinner table. Every holiday, he drove our dad crazy by making it a goal to get one of us to shoot milk out of our noses. He almost always succeeded.

Over the past few years, he battled many demons. He had lost his way and he stopped letting the people who cared about him the most in. He was depressed and often expressed that he didn't know why he was even on this Earth.

We knew. We always knew. It was to be a part of our family. He completed our tribe, and as messy as it may have been, it was ours.

Colin took to drinking and lost himself at the bottom of the bottle. He worked to drink and he drank to work. He was trapped in a cycle that he couldn't stop and he shut the world out.

On Friday, April 26, 2019, less than 2 weeks before his 29th birthday, he went to sleep for the last time. With my dad checking in on him every 30 minutes, all day long, at 9:45pm, he found him unresponsive. Try as they might, the paramedics couldn't revive him. My brother went to heaven to be with Jesus that night.

When Colin was 19 years old, he really learned who Jesus is and claimed Him as his savior. Although Colin didn't walk out his faith as a redeemed son of the King, he knew Jesus Through all of his trials, Jesus was by his side, gently calling him to come back to Him. Colin is at peace now. His soul lives on in pure joy, a joy he couldn't find here, in heaven for eternity.

Colin's visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 1st from 4 - 7pm at Washburn-McReavy Nokomis Park Chapel, 1838 E Minnehaha Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55407. And the funeral will be held on Thursday, May 2nd at 11am with a 1 hour visitation prior at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 5426 12th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN, 55417.

If you are able, please consider donating to help us cover these unexpected costs as we lay our brother's body to rest.

Any funds raised beyond the cost of the memorial service, funeral and additional expenses will be donated to a non-profit to be named at a later date.

Thank you for all of your support, love, kind words, stories of remembrance and prayers during this time of mourning. As much as we are grieving, we know many of you are too. Please reach out to the us if you have no one to turn to. You do not need to walk through this alone.
