Liz Hemmer-Quate Memorial and Support for Paul

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

When we saw our friend Paul Hemmer-Quate’s name on Tony's cell phone calling him a few days ago, we knew that this was not going to be welcome news, and it wasn’t. He was calling to tell us that the love of his life, his wife, best friend and constant companion of more than 30 years, our dear friend Liz had passed away a few days earlier, on March 29th, of an embolism. Her loss was unexpected. They had both been napping when it happened; he woke up. She did not. The pain in his voice was palpable.

Since almost the day they met in the early 1990’s when Paul first spotted Liz hopping out of a red Mazda pickup truck down the street from where he worked, Liz and Paul shared a most uncommon and profound devotion to each other. Companions for life, they took a kind of quiet joy and comfort in each other that is so rare in this world. They were, and are, as one to us, and to all those, their family and friends who knew them together.

In 2005, Liz experienced the first of a series of debilitating migraine headaches which would follow her for the rest of her days. However, despite this and several other medical conditions - they never kept her from sharing with those who knew her, her warmth, humor, wisdom, and compassion for others. The same is true for Paul, who has encountered his own set of health challenges as well.

We happen to know that Paul, who works part-time, is not in a financial position to meet his living expenses right now, and will be in need of funds to serve as a bridge over the coming weeks and possibly months. Liz’s SSI disability insurance had represented most of their shared income. Paul has shared with us his deep wish to offer a memorial service for Liz’s family and friends to remember her by, and to plant a tree in her name. At this time, however, he is not able to do so.

So we are writing to ask you to kindly consider making a donation to help create a bridge for Paul to be able to make it through these next several weeks especially, in the face of this indescribable loss, and to offer a memorial for his lifelong love. Any amount will make a difference. Please consider making a donation. Thank you.

With love,
