Memorial and Cremation for Mayel

An update: I have updated the goal, I don't know how exactly everything will cost at this moment- between the services and temporary housing for family coming in- I'll also state that every day, getting messages of support is helping to feel connected and thank all of you for the support you've shown so far.

My family and I are wading through uncharted waters. This is the absolute worst experience I have ever been through. My middle sibling, Mariela "Mayel" Williams, has transitioned. My middle sibling has died. My little sister.

 

The person I was closest to in the whole entire world. Who always knew exactly what to say. Who, at times, felt like more of an older sibling to me than I was to them. Who handled words with precision and empathy that I knew was inspired by them growing up and seeing me navigate life three years ahead.

 

I've experienced loss and grief before. But this is so much deeper and so much more broad and chaotic and tortuous than anything I've been through before because of how much, how deeply, how sacredly I loved Mayel. How close we were.

My family and I are having to go through the process of planning what to do with their physical vessel while still cycling through shock, denial, anger, and confusion. The process has been really difficult for us and we are grateful for the support that has been shown so far. I created this donation page to fundraise for cremation and viewing services, as my family is currently experiencing financial strain.

 

Throughout this, I have also found that messages from others, regardless of how well they may know me or my family, have been incredibly helpful.
