My name is Mustafa Maizz, and I am writing from California, San Diego.
I am the cousin and closest friend of Amin Abdullah.
We received the devastating and heartbreaking news with shattered hearts and deep shock. It is difficult to put into words the pain our family is going through right now.
Amin was not only a beloved son, brother, and friend, but also a devoted father to his children. He leaves behind a grieving family who now faces an unimaginable loss and a future filled with uncertainty.
He is survived by his wife and children, who meant everything to him, and who now need all the support and care we can possibly give during this painful time.
All donations raised through this campaign will go directly and 100% to his family and children to help them cover immediate needs, living expenses, and support for the difficult days ahead.
We are deeply grateful for every message, every prayer, and every act of kindness. Your support means more than words can ever express.
Classroom of Compassion, a volunteer-led Los Angeles-based community organization, is raising funds to create three public altars honoring the victims of the tragic shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego on May 18, 2026.
As of May 19, the victims identified include:
Amin Abdullah
A security guard who was fatally shot while protecting the lives of more than a dozen children and staff members inside the school. He was also a father of eight
Mansour Kaziha
Known lovingly in the community as “Abu Ezz,” Mr. Kaziha managed the mosque store for nearly 40 years and was a respected community leader, husband, father, and grandfather.
Nader Awad
Nader Awad helped protect community members by guiding people away from danger and saving lives during the attack. Nader Awad lived across from the center and headed over to it every day. Awad’s wife is a teacher at the center.
When he heard gunshots, Imam Hassane said that Awad rushed to the center “to do something, to protect.”
We are seeking to raise $10,000 to help cover the cost of materials, supplies, transportation, and travel related to building these memorial spaces. This fundraiser will close once we reach our goal.
Your support will directly contribute to creating spaces for remembrance, healing, unity, and community care in San Diego during this incredibly painful time.
Please note: This is not a fundraiser for the victims’ families. If you would like to support them directly, please donate to the Islamic Center of San Diego Victim Fund
Classroom of Compassion has previously created memorial and healing spaces in communities impacted by tragedy, including Uvalde, TX; Highland Park, IL; Colorado Springs, CO; Monterey Park, CA; Las Vegas, NV; and Winder, GA.
Your support will help us honor the victims and provide a meaningful place for the community to gather, grieve, and heal together.
Thank you for your generosity, compassion, and support.
