Memaw's Urgent Medical Fund for Healing

Hello, my name is Roy Kareus and I am the president of the Grand Valley Horse Rescue. On Friday, November 22, 2024, Shelle deVergie, affectionally known as Memaw, the director and lead trainer of GVHR, was bucked off of one of the rescue horses.
At the emergency room, the doctor informed us that Memaw had a broken wrist, four fractured ribs under her right shoulder and a punctured lung. The saving grace of the whole accident, is that Memaw was wearing a helmet which saved her from a serious head injury.
Unbeknownst to Memaw and myself was the fact that she didn't have insurance as it had been canceled at the end of October because Memaw's social security increased in September. The insurance was income based.
It came as quite a shock to Memaw when the hospital notified her on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, that she had no insurance and owed them $20,500.
In addition to the current medical bill, Memaw will need to have surgery on her wrist after January 1, 2025, when she has new health insurance. The new insurance has an out-of-pocket amount of $5,000 annually.
Therefore, I am asking for $25,000 to cover her medical costs and anything extra will go for her physical therapy, acupuncture, and chiropractic care.
Please consider donating to cover Memaw's expenses. Her passion for saving horses has led to over 60 horses being safe over the last three years.
