Melynda Yoder, Proud Mother of 2- Stroke Recovery
Donation protected
On the morning of Sept 2nd, 2021 Melynda did not feel like herself. She had awoken in her new home and felt disorientated . She reached for her phone but everything was very confusing. Melynda was able to make it up the stairs to the 1st floor where her friend Anastasia was and realized she was unable to talk. Anastasia took one look and knew she had to get her to the hospital immediately. Melynda had experienced a stroke at some point in the night. The hospital was quick to not administer any drugs until they had done an MRI and brain scan. In doing so, they found a blood clot had lodged on the left side of the brain that caused her stroke. This is also the side where our speech and vocabulary is located. The scans also revealed the tissue around the brain is completely damaged. The stroke had taken her vocabulary and speech when she arrived and the doctors were preparing her family that it may not come back. The one thing the stroke did not do was paralyze her. She was able to walk into the hospital on her own which we are very thankful for. Melynda being the fighter she is was able to say a few words after 24 hours of her stroke. After 3 days in the hospital, she was released to family and the real journey has now begun. Melynda has jumped leaps and bounds with her speech in the last week but, still needs a lot of time and therapy to help her communicate fully again. The doctors feel she can be rehabilitated with the complete support of specialized doctors and services. They saw the fire in her eyes like we do when she gets determined. With this support of extensive speech therapy, cardiology and neurology medical bills, specialty doctor appointments, and travel of family to and from, it is taking a financial hardship especially since work is not an option right now. Our prayers are number one on the list of support, but anything to help in this time of recovery is so appreciated while they navigate this next journey.
Melynda is my true Capricorn "sister". She is the most persistent person I know who refuses to back down if you tell her "No". She is also one of my more stubborn girlfriends, who doesn't ask for help. She would rather push through obstacles than ever ask for assistance. I know this GoFundMe site is not what she would want but as her friend, she needs. Rylie and Zach are her most precious gift in life and she makes sure they are always taken care of. She dedicates herself to never giving up. She has shown us this strength before. And her SMILE. That is one of the most beautiful traits I love about her.
Your donations will go toward medical services/bills and travel for Rylie, Zach, and family members who need to help stay with Melynda in her road to recovery.
**I Traci Guenther, am a dear Friend of Melynda and the kids. I am trying to take some of the burden off their shoulders in starting this GoFundMe to support them. There has been a great response of friends who want to do something. This is the best way right now. They do need us. I encourage you to reach out to her as she can read your messages. Thank you, thank you!
