A University Park Elementary School 5th grader, Melvin Maldonado, died of brain cancer on June 7, 2014. Sweet, always smiling Melvin battled this disease for the last 4 years. Melvin lost the use of his legs and arms. His family also recently lost a 6 month old baby. They have an autistic teenage son and a son graduating from Northwestern this year. Their family is in crisis.
In the short-term, the family needs assistance paying for their utilities, groceries and other basic needs. Let's let the Maldonado's focus on taking care of their family right now and not worry about these items.
