Melvin's (Carlos) Rehabilation Journey

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Teneshia Skrine and I met my best friend/husband Melvin Skrine in November of 1999.  While in college, I accepted a part-time job at Radio Shack selling cell phones for Sprint at my local mall. Melvin walked into the store looking to buy a phone and our story begins. He was funny, easy to talk to, and just plain old charismatic. We exchanged numbers and 9 months after we met, we got married.  We both knew that we were always meant to be together as one. On August 11, 2020, we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. We are raising two daughters, Carla and Lauryn, and they are the light of our lives. Carla will be graduating from high school in May of this year, and he and I are excited about taking her to college in August to Georgia Southern University. This has also been a big year for our youngest daughter Lauryn, this is her first year in middle school.

To our family and friends, Melvin is known as the go to person when you need a helping hand, advice or just a listening ear. He truly knows no strangers and has always been easy going and friendly. So much so that I would sing the song, “You Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story every time we would go somewhere and he gets acquainted with someone new as a long running inside joke between he and I.

On March 7, 2021, our family experienced a traumatic event. Melvin went into cardiac arrest. It took 9 minutes to resuscitate him and during that time, his brain was not getting oxygen. He is currently in the ICU and due to his condition being ongoing and severe, our goal is to have him transferred out of Piedmont Henry Hospital into a place that specializes in the rehabilitation of people who suffered anoxic brain injury. We have found two rehabilitation facilities that can assist with Melvin’s recovery: The Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia and Tirr Memorial Hermann in Houston, Texas. If he is accepted into either hospital, both have the Disorder of Consciousness (DoC) Program to help him on the journey to recovery. If not, we would have to consider a sub-acute facility or home care which typically is not covered by insurance.

While insurance will only cover a portion of our medical treatment, we are grateful for every donation made to cover the additional costs of Melvin’s hospital stay, treatments, physical therapy, post hospital recovery and our finances during this hardship. Our family is believing and walking by faith that by God’s grace, Melvin will be healed and his health restored. We greatly appreciate your donation to support our family during this extremely difficult time and for being a part of our village. May GOD bless you and please keep our family in your prayers.

Thank you in advance for your love and support.
