Melvin O'Kelly of Marshfield entered into eternal peace on December 18, 2020 after a brief illness at 97 years old. Mel was born in Boston and grew up in Rockland and later settled in Marshfield with wife Virginia (pre-deceased) for 65 years. He was a proud Navy veteran, mason, and golf course superintendent of the Marshfield Country Club for 41 years.
One of Mel's greatest wishes was to attend the Marshfield Country Club's 100th anniversary in 2022, when he also would have been 100. We hope to honor his legacy and acknowledge his presence in the best way possible. The O'Kelly family is raising funds to create a memorial in Mel's name. Since we could not celebrate his life with all those who knew him due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we hope this memorial will serve as a tribute to all the lives Mel touched. After the memorial is completed, remaining funds will help us begin a scholarship fund for prospective golf superintendents or avid high school golfers within the South Shore community.
