My Father, Melvin Cavarlez, was a doctor, cancer-in-remission, and a father of 4 children. On December 5, 2020 my family and I received the tragic news that no other children should ever have to receive. Our Father has passed away from cardiac arrest as complication of leukemia. When we first received the news about my dad having leukemia, we were devastated and horrified. But our father is a fighter, he stayed in the hospital fighting this disease and keeping his faith intact and strong even though it was an uphill battle. It was hard for us then, but harder for us now. My father had the will to push through this disease and after 15 months of being away from home, staying in the hospital all day, he went home cancer-in-remission. That day was one of the happiest days of my life. However, we knew that the battle was far from over. It was around that time where COVID-19 was just starting; Our father was high-risk for this disease. He was just starting to recover and gathering his strength. Despite all of that, he never failed to show us how much he loves us. Even though how weak he was, he still managed to drive us around, buy groceries, help my brothers with homework, cook dinner, and other fatherly duties. We thought that we're finally through this horrible situation and we're on the path to recovery and healing. But on the noon of October 21, 2020 my father had a heart attack. He never woke up after that, a few weeks later the doctors told us that he is in a coma with no brain activities.
Everyone hat has ever met my dad will always remember his jovial attitude. He has always been very compassionate and kind to everyone, even to those whom he just met. He was always so bright and full of life. His loss of life has been really painful for us, but also gives us comfort knowing that he is done suffering. At this point in life where it seems like everything is falling apart, all we can really do is to hope for the better and keep having a steady faith. Despite the great deal of hardships my father went through before he passed, he never failed to doubt God and His purpose in my father's life. This is one of the reasons I've created this GoFundMe page: To find comfort in the kindness of others and to trust Him, above, that He will be with us no matter the height of the mountains in front of us.
