Melton Primary School Needs Help - Let's Make a Difference!

Thank you for taking the time to read about our fundraiser.

We are John, Sisko, Myron, and Raija Huijgen. You might know one of us, or maybe all of us. We are hoping to raise funds to help a friend in need. Mr. Yaledi is a Ugandan friend of ours who runs a school for orphaned and abandoned children, in Kampala, Uganda. The school funds are low and the lease for the school's property needs to be paid... The landlord has given him a week to come up with the funds, otherwise he will close the school until all bills are paid.... This would mean, taking the one thing away from these children that gives them stability and hope...

In March 2022, we left for a 15-month sabbatical. We travelled through Europe for eight months and continued in Africa for another five months. The last month, we had the privilege to live the local life in Uganda. We met Mr. Yaledi at his school, Melton Primary, as this was a school our children had once supported with their former school in Winnipeg, MB. Mr. Yaledi is an exceptional man who dedicates his life to educating orphaned and abandoned children. Not only has he set up a place of education for them, he also helps them find a safe place to sleep, and he tries to provide them with a meal a day. For a lot of children this is the only meal they will get that day...

You can imagine, most of these children do not have the means to pay for their tuition.

We have met Mr. Yaledi, and we have spent time with the 350 students in the school. They are such an amazing group of students, eager to learn and eager to put the past behind them and become contributing citizens.

We are still in daily contact with them and try to support the school as much as we can from the other side of the world.

They are in need of $2,250 CAD, to keep their school open and pay of their debt. Mr. Yaledi has not been able to pay their lease for the last term and still had some debt from the final term in 2023. The landlord also demanded an amount to secure the first few weeks of the new term, which starts next week....

We would like to raise a bit more money so they can provide the children with a few meals as well in the weeks to come.

We know how important this school is for so many children and we would be devastated to think it could be closed soon, because of $2,250...
