Update 9/1- with an heavy heart I must share my beautiful Friend has gained his wings. My heart is broken. Thank you to those who tried to help me save him. I will continue to help the feral community cats as much as I can in his name. RIP my sweet baby boy.
Urgent Friend Needs Us!
Friend is one of the community ferals I’ve fed and provided shelter for, for about 2 maybe 3 years. We named this kitty Friend not knowing its gender and because of its kind eyes. This cat is jokingly known as “Jesus” cat amongst my friends and I because Friend always helps rescue neighborhood strays. I have witnessed Friend bring starving cats to the house to eat and watching over them so they felt safe to enjoy their meals. Friend has never let me give pets but over time we have grown to enjoy each others company. This cat is outside my window first thing in the morning and comes to say goodnight everyday. When mom and I are outside gardening or cleaning Friend is there enjoying the sun.
over the last 2 weeks I have seen a quick decline in Friends energy, behavior and overall appearance. I’ve noticed a lack of coat care, lethargy and the swelling of his abdomen. Friend has been lingering outside my door and unlike before has been crying out to me. I can tell he/she is in pain and I feel in my bones is asking for help. Though in pain this kitty still did not allow me to handle it. I put out a cat carrier Friday 8/22 which Friend slept in and on 8/24 I swapped the carrier with the trapper because friend would bolt before I could close the normal carrier. Finally after trapping several other community cats and a baby opossum, I was able to catch Friend yesterday 8/28 and will be taking kitty to vet first thing this morning 8/29.
I don’t know what to expect from the visit but I hope it’s not too late and Friend can be helped. I hate seeing this sweet baby suffer. As we know vet bills are excruciatingly expensive and I would love to be able to do whatever I can to help Friend.
I created this go fund me to help raise money to care for all the cats I care for but right now the urgency is helping Friend.
if you could find it in your heart to donate even $1 or share this, the kitties and I would appreciate it.
here’s what Friend looked like before falling ill
About Me: Hi friends! My name's Melina and my heart bleeds for cats, especially the ones who require more patience like feral, ill, or disabled kitties. My life revolves around caring for my indoor rescues & outdoor community cats. I jokingly say I work to support cats, but that is the reality.
With your help, I hope to continue to be able to care for as many kitties as I can.
Meet my babies/the kitties:
Pantoof- 15 years, Male, feral rescue. Found as a kitten, very agressive and in isolation at Shelter. Rescued at 4 months. Has end stage Kidney Disease(renal failure). Pantoof is my life.
Girasol- 2 years, female, found abandoned/malnourished in an attic and rescued her at 3 weeks. She has a mouth deformity which made it difficult for her to latch.
Lilith Rayne- 13 weeks, Male, polydactyl, asthmatic. Found at 3 weeks in an alley eyes glued shut, severe respiratory infection, malnourished/underweight, ringworm, flea/mite infestation, hypothermic.
Momo- 13y/o, Male, Blind, deaf, feral. Found Oct 2024 on the street. Weighed only 5lbs, severely underweight, broken teeth, fractured jaw, mite/flee infestation, hernia, severe respiratory infection, needed blood transfusions. Momo is a Damn fighter and I refused to give up on him as long as he showed he wanted to fight. Now he’s comfortably living in doors in his own penthouse. Still won’t let me snuggle him but we are working on it.
Community Cats
Amber- female calico, super friendly but hates the female kitties haha. She is so demanding and likes to be treated like a queen.
Friend- beautiful fluffy Tabby who needs your help right now. Friend is my special baby. RIP baby boy 9/1/2025
Jiji- started coming around Oct of last year. Feral and skittish
Kingsley- Male and for the most part friendly, occasionally he is a grump. Huge cat, has been coming on and off for about 2 years.
Estrellita + her baby- has been around for about 1 year. She’s skittish but lately hasn’t ran away from us and talks to us. She’s so pretty and only
comes at night around 6pm and sleeps in patio until 5 am. Her companion who we think is her baby has been coming since July 4 2025
Botitas- Male. Feral. My boots has a special place in my heart. He’s extremely skittish and was aggressive. He basically came with the house when my mom moved in. He doesn’t growl or hiss at me anymore or run away when I feed him. He has kidney issues, has been hit by a car, and I believe is a senior cat.
Patches- randomly comes thru
Reginald- feral and the neighborhood bully but cute fluffy
La Niña- she comes and goes, very sweet but skittish tortoise kitty
Brownie- will show up once a month.
and here’s me feeding some kittens in a shopping parking lot. I always carry food in my car for strays
