We created this GoFundMe to help raise funds for our sweet girl, Melon, that we adopted on December 16, 2025. What we thought would be the start of a happy, healthy life together has quickly turned into an unexpected and overwhelming medical journey.

Just two days after bringing her home, Melon developed a severe cough. We took her to establish care with our vet, where X-rays showed concerning patterns in her lungs. She was treated for kennel cough, and bloodwork was sent out to test for blastomycosis. Around this same time, we were told she likely had arthritis in her hips — something we were prepared to manage so she could stay comfortable in her senior years.

Thankfully, the blasto test came back negative. At her one-week recheck, her lungs looked much better, though there were signs of scar tissue. We started her on joint supplements and felt hopeful we were moving in the right direction.

Then last week, everything changed. Melon began limping severely, so we returned to the vet for hip X-rays, which required sedation. From those X-rays, we learned she has hip dysplasia. She was started on medication to help with the pain and inflammation, but her vet now believes she may have had a bad reaction to the medication.

Since that appointment, Melon has not eaten since the night before her sedation and has slowly been declining. We’ve had to bring her back for more X-rays, additional bloodwork, and now multiple overnight stays at the vet where she is receiving fluids and supportive care to help her body recover.

Watching her go through this has been heartbreaking. We adopted Melon to give her the happy, safe, loving life she deserves — especially as a senior dog — and we are doing everything we can to help her heal and stay comfortable. But the sudden diagnoses, unexpected complications, and ongoing vet bills have become overwhelming all at once.
