Melody's Second Chance: Beat Breast Cancer
Donation protected
Hello, I am Taylor Belk. My mother’s name is Melody, and we need some help.
My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. We have been fighting with the state of Kansas to get her insurance back to be able to help with expenses for treatment. In the meantime, she was going to the Tammy Walker Cancer Center in Salina. They took more labs to see if it was spreading and if it was getting worse. They then proceeded to tell her that it was metastatic and that she only had 6-12 months to live. We then went to the Cancer Center in Texas; they ran a test and told us the type of breast cancer she has and that, in fact, it was not metastatic. We are happy about that, but they put her in a clinical trial where she must go get infusions 1-3 times a month down in Houston. Her primary care physician also dropped her as a patient when he found out she got a second opinion. Again, this is Salina Regional/Comm Care.
We currently do not have a spare vehicle to keep traveling down there. We have been renting cars to be able to get the care and help she needs to stop the spread and hopefully get rid of the cancer for good. Financially, I cannot keep renting cars and hotels to keep going down there, and she is not able to work right now, and disability has not reached out to us about this either. I hope one day there is a cure and no one must go through this anymore. My mother watched her mom die from leukemia (blood cancer) when she was 14 years old. We also saw her grandmother/my great-grandmother go through the battle of breast cancer. If you could please donate to help us get a car so she is still able to get down there for her treatments and for other expenses from the treatments, that would be amazing. I know how expensive everything is these days, and it’s hard to help, but if you can, we would really appreciate it. Also, if you could just share this so we can spread the word, that would be awesome too.
Thank you and have a blessed day!
