Melody Lambus, aka Auntie Mel, General, Captain, Tell it like it is Mel needs our help.
Melody Lambus, an Auntie to hundreds of youth, has worked as a youth and children's leader at New Jerusalem Worship Center, of Jamaica, NY, for over 3 decades. She has always shown compassion, love, and encouragement to the young people in the community. She has opened her pocketbook and her doors time and time again to countless children and youth and her impact is far-reaching. Melody has always given so much to any, and everyone, and now she needs our help.
The year 2020 has had a lot of ups and downs for us all. Melody finally retired from the United States Postal Service after 34 yrs of service. She was ready to travel the world, visit friends, experience new things, and continue creating beautiful pieces in her arts and craft corner. Unfortunately Coronavirus put a stop to all activities and made us all sit still. Amid this, Melody continued to help and provide comfort to the youth through Zoom meetings and recording every Friday and Saturday.
Since the beginning of December, 2020, she has been in the hospital, and it has been very hard due to Covid 19. Soonafter Melody was diagnosed with cancer (soft tissue sarcoma) in her right leg, after several tests and doctors' diagnoses. This type of cancer is fast moving and aggressive action was needed to prevent the cancer from spreading. As a result, Melody's right leg had to be amputated. While we are thankful that her life was spared, she now has to navigate the world in a very different way.
Now she is preparing to start rehab so that she can relearn how to do many activities and be independent. We have received many phone calls and messages asking how one can help and this is one of many ways that you can show your support. For one, she will need to relocate to a different home that is wheelchair accessible. This task encompasses hiring packers and movers to help transport her things to her new home.We will also need assistance with making her new home more comfortable so that she can be as independent as possible and this is just the beginning.
Mel has been through so much in a very short period of time and if you know Mel, you know that she rarely asks anyone for anything. She has been a treasure to many and now she needs our support. Please do what you can...if you can.
God bless you all!!
