Melody Mielke needs new TEEEEEEETH
Melody needs her face put back together after it violently met the road!
On Feb 9 Mel was riding her scooter home from work and was nearly taken out by an SUV who never even slowed down. She successfully swerved to avoid the vehicle merging into her lane directly on top of her, but in the process took a header into a curb. Her safety gear, particularly her helmet, took good care of her so her only injuries were a broken jaw and a mouthful of shattered teeth.
After picking herself up off the road, with the assistance of a kind stranger who made sure she got herself home ok (THANK YOU!), she spat out a tooth and rode the rest of her way home and then headed to the ER. The next day she was in for facial reconstructive surgery, which went well but cost $3000 on the spot, and since then she has been on a liquid diet while her wired-back-together jaw and teeth heal.
Unfortunately, some of her teeth are dying and some bits of bone are working their way out through her gums. She's going to require root canals on all of the shattered teeth, and her doctors are planning to put in crowns/bridges, assuming there is enough bone left to properly anchor them. That's going to be $10,000 out of pocket. She may also require additional surgery to remove remaining bone fragments.
She hasn't gotten the ER bill yet, so this number will increase. This is just for the costs not covered by insurance that they've already been given numbers for, plus anticipated gofundme fees.
