My name is Tanya Sloan and I am raising money for my friends, the Mellott Family. This fundraiser is intended to provide financial support for them during Lori's medical journey.

At the end of April 2023, Lori received devastating news when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The family's world changed in an instant, with Lori being whisked away by ambulance and starting chemo while en route to the U of A where she remained for almost one month.

Lori's road to recovery is a long one. While everyone celebrates her recent remission status, it is not forever. She requires a bone marrow transplant or the cancer will return. The most recent chemo she completed was intense, morning and night as an out-patient travelling back and forth from Gibbons. She is weakened, and while happy to be home with Derek and the kids, requires constant care.

Lori's needs will intensify with her upcoming bone marrow transplant in Calgary, AB, where she must relocate for 3 months. Derek will join her as the main caregiver. The children will be staying with a close family friend.

The bills, the mortgage, the regular costs of life... they do not stop for anyone, even those fighting for their lives. Lori and Derek just learnt their Calgary accommodation may not be covered. The last thing they need to worry about right now is money.
