Help Melita Beat Cancer!

When Melita turned 40 in January, she had a lot of hopes and dreams for this momentous year. Battling cancer wasn’t one of them.

One June 27th, we found out that she has invasive breast cancer (infiltrating ductal carcinoma and DCIS to be exact). With no history of it in her family, and being so young and healthy, we were shocked.

If you have ever met her, you know what an amazing person she is. She is one of the most kind, loving, funny, and smart people in the world. And she needs your help.

This diagnosis catches us completely off guard. While Melita does have insurance (thank you Obamacare!), it is a self-funded plan and has a high deductible with very high out of pocket expenses.  We also expect expenses that fall outside of insurance.

As an environmental consultant, she helps companies across the world become more sustainable. She is fighting the good fight every day. But as a consultant, there is no income if she doesn’t work. There is no salary or sick time to fall back on. And she is going to miss a lot of work.

We spent most of our savings on our new house that we bought together back in November. It’s an old fixer-upper in our favorite neighborhood in Seward, Minneapolis. We love its creaks and squeaks.

The last thing Melita needs to worry about is our finances. She needs to focus on battling cancer and heading down the road to recovery.
