A Home For Melissa's Hope

Déductible d'impôts
With your help, we're going to buy a building in Haiti, and give Melissa's Hope a home.

Melissa's Hope is an orphanage in Haiti that is home to 22 kids, half with severe disabilities.  It's also a school and day camp for 70 kids that has become a pillar in the community.  Visiting Melissa's Hope is a breath of fresh air.  It's staffed by good people who encourage the kids to learn and play in an atmosphere that feels a lot like summer camp.

The problem is, Melissa's Hope has no permanent location.  The facility is rented month to month with no guarantees for the future.  It's also in desperate need of costly repairs and improvements, work we can't start while renting month to month.

With your help, we can buy the entire compound and give Melissa's Hope a permanent home.  A generous donor challenged us to raise $50,000 before the end of the year.  If we can do it, she will more than double the money we raise in order to purchase the facility.  So far, we've raised $26,000.  We need $24,000 more to meet the challenge.

It's an exciting opportunity, and we hope you'll join us!

MELISSA'S HOPE FOUNDATION INC. 501(c)(3) - We're 100% volunteer - Every dollar of every donation received goes directly to Melissa's Hope.  To learn more, visit www.melissashope.org  Contact information for MHF board members is listed at http://melissashope.org/128-2/  Please feel free to contact any of us if you have questions about this fundraiser.

FLOODING:  This is the Melissa's Hope building on a dry day, and also on rainy days.  It's located in Croix-Des-Bouquets, a community that floods with every storm.   The sewage system in the building is damaged, so when flooding happens, the water becomes contaminated.  This makes cholera and malaria a constant threat, so we have to entirely replace the system.  See more images at http://melissashope.org/flooding/

ELECTRICITY:  Electricity to the building is not always available, so they use a gas generator, often for weeks at a time to keep the lights on.  We'd like to fit solar panels to the roof that will greatly reduce the need to burn gas in the generator.  Gas is now up to almost $5.00 per gallon in Haiti.

MAINTENANCE:  There is always maintenance, but overall the building is in good shape.  Once the building is acquired by the Melissa's Hope Foundation, we'll be able to replace the damaged sewage system, improve the electrical system, and make improvements to the sleeping quarters, classrooms, kitchen, playground, and storm drain systems.

Working in Haiti sometimes feels like drying a car in the rain.  The rain keeps coming, but you just keep wiping.  But there are bright spots in Haiti, wonderful places run by good people who believe that the children are the promise of a better future in Haiti.  Melissa's Hope is one of these places.

Help us to give Melissa's Hope a permanent home.  Every donation, big and small, brings us closer to reaching the $50,000 challenge.  We've already raised $26,000 toward this goal, so momentum is on our side.  When we purchase the Melissa's Hope compound, there will be celebrations throughout Croix-Des-Bouquets, and the orphans, students, and day campers will always have a safe place to live, learn, and play.

Thank you from all of us at the Melissa's Hope foundation!
