Hey everyone,
My name is Isabella Cervantes. As you most likely haven’t heard, my mom is currently in the ICU fighting for her life. She was admitted to Temecula Valley Hospital 11/29 after being in and out of the ER with unusually severe back and abdominal pain along with uncontrollable vomiting for two months. After multiple failed visits and no real answers, doctors finally performed an MRI and found a blood clot wrapped around her spine from her thoracic to lumbar spine (top to bottom) a ruptured artery in her spine, and a tumor being covered by the blood clot. This discovery immediately flipped everything upside-down and the timing of this was extremely key in saving her life and preserving her ability to walk and just have normal bodily functions. This has caused her to experience massive nerve pain, bleeding, and at any point, she could have passed away. Right now she’s (at the very least) at high risk of stroke, aneurysm, cardiac arrest and/or partial or full paralysis, but the doctors were able to stabilize her bleeding.
She’s now been transferred to the Neuro ICU at UCSD so she can get the proper surgery to repair her spine, remove the blood clot, and repair any other potential damage and remove the tumor. The surgery will save her life, give her a much better chance avoiding paralysis, and allow her to have proper function and control throughout her body.
All of that said, my parent’s insurance provider will only foot 80% of the medical bill. The remaining 20% will be out of pocket. We estimate the costs to be astronomical - with the ER visits, surgeries, multiple scans, extended ICU stays, ambulance transfer, physical therapy etc. - we’re asking for anything at all that you may be able to do to help my parents get through this time. Even if it’s as simple as sharing this post, it would mean the world to my family and I. All of this will unfortunately have a massive impact on their financial and general living situation.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for even taking the time to read this! We appreciate you all and we will continue to keep you posted with more updates as they become available.
