Melissa Sciba is the most positive and full of sunshine person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting! She literally walks into a room and you can’t help but smile at her sweet voice and constant positivity. A ray of light literally radiates from her heart. Her “hi beautiful” or “hey gorgeous” always makes me smile even after the hardest and longest 12 hour day. You always know when she’s working as you can usually hear her sweet voice from al the way down the hall. She is a hardworking momma to four children Andrew (25), Zach (23), Chase (17), Madison (11) and a wife to her husband of 26 years. She has been a NICU nurse at Children’s Memorial Hermann for the last 13 years in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit caring for the sickest and tiniest babies here in Houston. She gives her heart and soul to her family, her friends, and everyone she comes into contact with. You can truly say you were touched in some way after just meeting her once. She will leave an impression on you that you will take with you for a lifetime. On top of already having transverse myelitis that was diagnosed in 2011, Melissa was devastated to find out two days before her oldest sons wedding on November 1st that she was being diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer 4a as well. She will be undergoing chemotherapy treatments to help her fight this disease currently and hoping that eventually she will be approved for the trial immunotherapy chemo that insurance has so far denied.
Medical expenses start to multiply quickly with this diagnosis and with Melissa being away from work it becomes even harder to make up the difference. The immunotherapy therapy treatment has been denied by insurance at this time and we want to help in every way we can to possibly help Melissa afford this treatment and give her an even stronger chance to kick this cancer to the curb!
We are hoping to get this page to be shared throughout the world! Please share with your friends, your neighbors, your coworkers, everyone you can think of. The more people who can be touched by her story the better! Everyone knows someone who has been affected by this terrible disease. Cancer is a terrible stealer of joy and has taken far too many lives too soon. Let’s help Melissa kick this cancers butt and show the world that we can fight this together!! Melissa loves unicorns so we are titling this group Melissa’s Unicorns Take on Cancer!! What better mascot for the most friendly and positive person in the world!
