Melissa was only 16. With ten grade 9s at GCSE, a love of learning and dreams of studying Mathematics and Philosophy at Oxford, she had so much to look forward to. Tragically, her life was cut short at a zebra crossing near her school, leaving her family, friends and school community facing an unimaginable loss.

Melissa was the rock that held her family together and mature beyond her years, providing support to her Mum and younger sister during the difficult times they have faced. She was also an exceptionally kind, funny, talented and a wonderful friend to so many. Her beautiful smile won people’s hearts, and her caring and thoughtful nature brought joy to those around her. She was sporty, an avid reader, a gifted pianist and a committed member of the school choir. One of her favourite pieces was Pie Jesu, which she sang in Southwark Cathedral, a memory that will remain precious to all who heard her.

Shan and I are close friends of the family raising funds so that Melissa’s grandparents can travel from Asia to attend her funeral and be with Melissa’s Mum and younger sister as they say their final goodbye. Donations will also help ease the immediate financial and practical pressures Melissa’s Mum is facing during this heartbreaking time, allowing her to focus on grieving the loss of her daughter and supporting Melissa’s younger sister through this devastating time.
