Melissa's medical adventure
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Melissa. I'm the proud single mother of the brightest children. I work full time at my dream job doing nerdy IT stuff to secure state of MN websites. I love my family and my work and I will work at the state for the rest of my life because I believe in everything we do. I am lucky to work with the brightest, best, and funniest humans.
I have been type 1 diabetic for 23 years. I had foot surgery about ten years ago to remove a bunion on my right foot and it has led to complications ever since. With type 1 diabetes comes nerve issues and increased infection lack of blood flow and poor healing. Over the past year I have had 11 surgeries on my right foot and I have had about 15% of my foot amputated. This has led to over $20,000 in medical debt that I am still paying off. I have no idea how much I have paid total.
The hospital amputated November 1st and I have been healing pretty well ever since. I thought I was on a path to recovery and have been able to get my diabetes in better control and my mental health as well. I moved into my dream house in the beginning of February and stubbed my toe.... One of my remaining toes ;) this has lead to a diabetic foot ulcer, which became infected and was amputated last Friday.
I don't like to ask for help, I've never asked for charity, and I've never received a handout in my life. But I feel like I'm drowning. And I'm starting to feel like I won't be able to keep my head above water. This is doing a number to my depression and anxiety and mental health as well.
I've started this fundraiser for myself in hopes to Wipeout a quarter of the remaining medical debt that I still have so I can feel like I'm making progress and see some light at the end of the tunnel. Any and every donation or well wish or prayer is and will be forever appreciated.
