Prior to Melissa’s diagnosis, she was the most vibrant human being—always the first to organize family gatherings and offer a helping hand, no matter the situation. Her strength, optimism, and zest for life were contagious, and her smile could light up any room. She is also a devoted mother to three beautiful children, who are her greatest joy and motivation to keep fighting. Everything changed suddenly when Melissa’s world was turned upside down by a severe liver condition. One day she was the best version of herself, and the next, she was facing a life-threatening diagnosis.
Melissa went in for a liver biopsy on November 13th, but she was too ill for her medical team to perform the procedure. She was admitted to Roper Hospital and later transferred to MUSC, where the biopsy was finally performed on November 17th. Even before the results came back, her doctors determined that she would need a full liver transplant and placed her on the donor list, searching up to a 500-mile radius. In the last week, Melissa has officially been listed on the UNOS (National Organ Transplant Waiting List) and remains hospitalized while her medical team closely monitors her condition as we wait for a matching donor.
The emotional toll of this journey is immeasurable, but the financial strain is also a heavy burden. We believe in the power of hope, prayer, and community. If you are unable to donate financially, please help by sharing Melissa’s story with your network—spreading the word offers invaluable support. We are so grateful for your kindness, thoughts, prayers, and generosity during this incredibly challenging chapter. Please pray hard for my sister; she needs this transplant, healing, love, and all the support she can get.
