This fund is for Melissa- a much-loved mother, daughter, sister, teacher and friend.
Over the last few weeks, a pesky and persistent cough led Melissa to get a chest x-ray. That x-ray showed a large mass on her left lung. A biopsy was then done. On Valentine’s Day, Melissa received the devastating and unexpected news that she has stage 4-lung cancer that has spread to her ribs and spine. This diagnosis was especially shocking given the fact that Melissa is not and has never been a smoker.
Melissa is the caretaker and sole provider for her two young daughters, Olivia, 9 and Shelby, 5. Although Melissa has been a dedicated teacher for the last 20 years, she is currently on a medical leave where she is unable to get paid.
