I am creating this Go Fund Me for my cousin, Melissa (Mogensen) Varner. Melissa is someone we all know, love and admire for her amazing smile, kind heart and giving personality. In June of 2024, Melissa was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive breast cancer that accounts for only 1-5% of all breast cancers. To treat the Triple Negative Inflammatory Cancer she has, she's had to travel back and forth to the Cancer Center in Houston. It is 1 of only 5 Cancer Hospitals in the United States that has a dedicated inflammatory center to provide the Tri-modal care needed for her type of cancer.

She began chemotherapy shortly after diagnosis and for over a year she has continued her work in education while quietly battling. Melissa will finally have a mastectomy on August 28th and begin radiation shortly after. She will be off work for an extended period of time for both. Radiation will require her to reside in Houston for 4-6 weeks. This is a huge expense to be piled on top of the rest.

Although Melissa is an extremely private and independent person, she is humbled and grateful beyond words to know that people want to help. If you cannot donate to this fundraiser, just sharing it will help so much. Let's help this Warrior take just a little bit off of her shoulders.
