It is with a heavy heart that we are having to make this post. Those close to my mom (Melissa Martinez-Saul) knew she has been fighting a battle with stage 4 breast cancer. She never wanted anyone to know just how weak she was or how bad she was hurting, but I can promise you cancer is a very ugly disease. Mom never asked for much and needed very little to make her happy. All she needed was her soda, family, faith, and she loved to feed her animals. I always laughed at her naming her wild birds, raccoons, and squirrels. Now I would give anything to hear her ask me to pick up food for her animals one last time. When I think of mom I think of the word LOVE. If you were to walk in her apartment you would see ‘love’ on her wall decor, her clothes, her drawings, and you would certainly feel it when you were around her. She is a very simple person who found the good in all. There are not many people I know more kind hearted than her. Simply put she loves to love people. Her strength truly came from her faith. Her positivity was just as contagious as her laugh and smile. Anyone who met my mom would be met with open arms and a huge grin. There is so much I would do to see that beautiful smile again. Unfortunately, mom has taken a turn for the worst. She is being comforted by our families 24/7 around the clock care and her hospice nurses. At this point mom in non-responsive which leads us to this hard decision. Our family has never been one to ask for help however, Mom did have last wishes to have a funeral and be buried with her mom. She did not have life insurance and our family is in the tough spot of planning funeral arrangements all while taking care of her in her last days. While we wish to grieve, we are told to set up arrangements now. I have been asked by family members to figure out how to set up a donation spot. We are at a loss for words and life is not always fair, moms hospice nurses have warned us her time on earth is very slim. Everyone is going through a lot these days but if you could donate any amount would help with her arrangements. Continued prayers for her comfort would be appreciated.
