Melissa and Mike Pfannerstill are dear friends. They’re good folks who would give you the shirts off their backs if you were in need. To them, family is everything and friends are a close second. They love and support each other like very few families I have ever seen, and they are friends who will stand beside you through anything.
The Pfannerstills moved to Nebraska a few years back when Melissa secured a job in Seward. Unfortunately she lost her job due to differences of opinion about business practices happening in her office. Then, due to health issues related to the cold, humid climate, Mike and Melissa moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, where they currently reside.
Back in 2012 Mike suffered Sudden Cardiac Death. Miraculously, he survived, but only after some very long, traumatizing and scary moments. Since then, Melissa has been his primary caregiver and now she is even his driver. Prior to his heart troubles, Mike was a successful businessman, but lost just about everything and now receives only disability payments due to his fragile physical condition.
Melissa now needs help. She was diagnosed last week with colon cancer and, as a fighter, will fight this cancer with all her might and effort. Unfortunately, her fight will not be cheap or short-lived. Because of the complexity of her treatment, they will have to travel frequently to the University of New Mexico Cancer Center in Albuquerque, some three hours from home.
Already on a limited budget, they will not be able to cover the costs associated with their new fight.
Known costs will include co-pays and other medical expenses, lost work, food and lodging, and gasoline. Certainly there will be additional, currently-unknown costs.
Melissa’s first trip to the cancer center in Albuquerque is this week so their financial needs are immediate. This week she will learn more of the specific course of treatment required.
Please consider helping this most deserving family through what will prove to be a terribly difficult experience.
