Dear friends & family,
Our mother, Melissa Freitas, was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the age of 52. She will undergo a very aggressive type of chemotherapy, which we hope will kill off enough of the cancer to make her eligible for the Whipple procedure, the most promising cure for pancreatic cancer. We have a long road ahead of us and the medical bills will be overwhelming, yet we are remaining hopeful.
Every person that has met our mother has formed an uncanny connection with her, as she has a heart unlike any other, filled with a purpose to care deeply and spark love. She has handled all life's burdens with enthusiasm and strength. From raising us as a single mother, caring for our entire family, and taking on the responsibility of being a psychiatric nurse - there is no one more capable.
Her greatness is shown through many achievements- most close to her heart is the unwavering commitment she has to my sister and I's academic pursuits at UCSB and NYU, her amazing softball team (Go Sandbar!) and the career she calls home. She has only began her immense impact on the patients and staff of Alpine Special Treatment Center, already having earned "Nurse of the Year" twice out of the three years as an employee.
It’s time for us to return some of the love she has poured outward back to her in this dire time of need. We are scared for what the future holds, but hopeful that our strong mother will fight. We would greatly appreciate any contribution to her medical bills. We are so grateful for the outpouring love, prayers, and support. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
With love,
Emily and Sarah Freitas
