My name is Meghann Garrett and I am raising funds to help Melissa Barker and her family. Melissa Barker and her mom have been important members of our community for a long time. I remember many days watching Melissa care for so many of Rock Hill’s children at the YMCA, where we worked together. We went to high school together, and I remember her kindness and acceptance! Melissa is an awesome mom, friend and community member. She’s finishing school now for her medical assistant license and she’s also a great mom and daughter. She’s in a bind. We all know that inflation has impacted us greatly over the last couple years. Rent has skyrocketed and life has gotten pretty hard for a lot of us. Melissa has unfortunately separated from her husband, and he has moved out. But she now is having a lot of difficulty providing for her, family and mother, who lives with her. As the daughter of a single mother I remember those early days after divorce where things were really tight. I can’t imagine what my family might’ve gone through had the current runaway inflation situation also been a part of our world. Now is the time where we really need to lift each other up, and Melissa desperately needs a hand. She has a letter of eviction and she’s going to need support. I have no doubt that she’ll be a wonderful med tech. Her whole life has been in the service of caring for others. We need to care for her and her children, and her mom. I’m calling on all of the Mother Earth Alumni and any of us with big hearts to please spread this far and wide and surpass the goal here to help Melissa and her family.
