Please consider supporting Melisa’s indescribable journey. Melisa was admitted to the Winfield hospital on June 12, 2017. She was vomiting non-stop, dizzy and had double vision. While she was there she had her gall-bladder removed; however, after a few days, she was transferred to St. Francis hospital in Wichita due to her sodium levels being life threateningly low. After being in St. Francis for a couple days, she had what is now believed to be a Myasthenia Gravis Crisis event that caused her to be intubated. Melisa was critically ill and dozens of tests and blood work continued to leave her and her friends and family without answers as to why she couldn’t breathe on her own, couldn’t open her mouth or eyes much.  Melisa spent the last six months battling for her life while doctors tried to identify the cause of her life changing event. Doctors believe she has a severe case of Myasthenia Gravis. For those who are not familiar with the disease and want to learn more, you can go to www.myastheniagravis.org. Over the last six months she was treated in three different hospitals and two rehab facilities. Two of those six months were spent in ICU. During her journey Melisa experienced a collapsed lung, seizures and several intubations. Melisa is 40 years old and is a recently divorced mother of two wonderful teenage girls. By the grace of God Melisa is finally at home continuing her recovery. Her recovery and treatment plan are still on going and will continue for some time. We ask that you consider donating anything you can to help Melisa with her medical expenses as she is on disability and not able to work right now. You can only imagine the medical bills that continue to come in from being in the hospital for six months, having five ambulance rides and a life flight to KU Med center. Any help will relieve some of the financial stress that Melisa is dealing with. Stress is very bad for Myasthenia Gravis so anything we can do to help provide relief is a blessing. Melisa is currently receiving IGIV treatments every three weeks to help manage her symptoms. She continues to make progress and is currently doing out-patient physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Melisa has been an inspiration to many throughout her journey. She has fought long and hard and continues to fight every single day. If you are not able to donate financially, we would ask that you keep Melisa and her friends and family in your prayers and add them to your prayer chains. We specifically ask for healing and her ability to swallow and eat again! Melisa wants to eat and drink again very soon. If you would like to make a kind gesture and send her a card or a note of encouragement, please send them to 1709 Loomis Street, Winfield, KS 67156.  I know Melisa is forever grateful for your love and support!
