My name is Melinda and I'm 48 years old. I was told I would need to write "my story" for this gofundme. Every time I would start to try and write it I would break down and stop. Facing this has been so difficult for my family and me. Let me go back to April 2012 when I was first diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. All I could think of was that I was going to die. My life flashed before my eyes along with my husband's face and my 7 year old daughter's face. To break this devastating news to both of them was heartbreaking for me. I fought and survived though. All three of us did. Fast forward to January 2022 and I was informed that I now have HER positive breast cancer (metastatic breast cancer) which means it has affected some of my other organs as well. Again my life flashed before my eyes and all I saw was my husband's face and my 17 year old daughter's face. This time my cat's face too. I was devastated yet again. Thankfully in the past 10 years there have been advancements even for Stage 4 breast cancer and my journey will involve 2 antibody pills and chemotherapy as of now. Since mid April 2021 I had been working out of town and away from my family. I was working as a counselor/contractor, but with no insurance. My husband will be my caregiver while we see if and how the chemotherapy affects me. Over the next weeks and months ahead we will be facing countless doctor's appointments, scans, and surgeries. As you can imagine the normal costs of everyday living such as mortgage, food, gas, and car...and the medical bills will be hard to pay while I receive my treatment.
