Melinda Young - Celebration of Life

Melinda Young was born on March 24, 1962 in Orlando, FL. At 60, she passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022.

Melinda is preceded in death by her parents, Elster and Ruth Elkins. She is survived by her daughter Katrina Whitacre, son, Clinton Nipper, grandchildren, Katlyn Tapia, Alexis Whitacre, Brooklyn Whitacre, Sidney Nipper, and son-in-law Joseph Whitacre.

Melinda worked at Consolidated Label for 30 years and made long-time friends there. Melinda's clients highly respected her for her expertise and attention to detail, which was reflected in her annual sales. She treated people the way she wanted to be treated, with respect and dignity. That same work ethic and mindset carried over into her personal life. Melinda was genuine in everything she did.

Melinda was a wonderful mother and, even better Nana, as her grandchildren called her. She loved her family and adored her four granddaughters more than life. She loved to go on family vacations with Katrina, Alexis, Brooklyn and Sidney. They would go at least once a year (usually by the water) and always have something special every year just for the grandkids. Melinda loved to feel the sun shining on her skin. Camping, glamping as they called it, was one of her favorite times because they spent every weekend together for the whole month at least 3x's a year. They traveled to different beaches, lakes, the mountains and cruised as a family.

Melinda had a joy for life. She was funny and witty, always cracking a joke and making others laugh. She loved sitting on the porch with her dogs, Jack and Sam, or with friends. She moved in February of 2022, and was able to enjoy her new home and land, especially looking at the stars at night. This is something she had wanted to enjoy for a long time.

Melinda was very crafty, painting rocks to leave around town for others to find. There was always something new that she would produce or make. She would often make crafts or paint canvases with her family as well. As long as it was with her family, the activity did not matter- it was about the memories they'd make together. She will be truly missed.

Visitation will be Saturday May 21, 2022, from 2-3pm at Newcomer Cremation, Funerals & Receptions (Winter Park Chapel).
