Craig Melia, a long time Wildland Firefighter and a Captain of the Arroyo Grande Hotshots is unable to work for the majority of the 2020 Fire season due to a family emergency. This will inevitably effect his income and ability to provide for his wife and two young children. Wildland Firefighters are gone a majority of the summer leaving their wives home for weeks at a time to take care of the household and children. On April 25, 2020 his wife was hospitalized, leaving Craig to take the season off to care for his children and be by his wife’s side. Missing the fire season this summer will put a financial hardship on the Melia family.
