Marathon for Melez Dog Rescue - Helping Stray Dogs in Turkey
Donation protected
Running has always been a passion of mine, but this upcoming race is especially meaningful. On March 2, 2025, I will be running the Napa Valley Marathon to raise funds for abandoned and stray dogs in Turkey. Having growing up with dogs and with my family adopting two strays, this cause is very close to my heart.
I’m supporting Melez Dog Rescue, an incredible organization I’ve followed for years. Melez works tirelessly to rescue, shelter, treat, and rehome dogs in some of the worst conditions imaginable.
Recently, their mission has become even more urgent. About five months ago, Turkey passed a law allowing stray dogs to be forcibly collected and placed in overcrowded shelters, where they face terrible conditions and are often tortured and euthanised without a reason.
This cause is deeply personal to me because Elmo, my own dog, was once a Turkish stray. His journey from the streets to my home is the testament to the resilience and love these dogs have to offer. Through this campaign, I hope to raise awareness about adopting instead of buying pets. For my friends outside of Turkey, Melez Dog Rescue prepares dogs for overseas adoption. You can check out the dogs waiting for their forever home here: Melez Dog Rescue
If you’re not ready for the commitment of adopting a dog, you can still make an impact by donating here. Every contribution helps give these dogs a second chance at life. Thank you for your support!
