You are all hereby invited to the inaugural Melbourne Turnip Toss Championship 2025.

The Melbourne Turnip Toss Championship will celebrate the Ancient Celtic art of Turnip Tossing, and honour the legacy of our late friend, Henry (Harry) John O'Shea, who was a gifted Turnip Tosser and three time Enniskellen Turnip Toss champion (2007, 2009, 2010)

For those unfamiliar with Turnip Tossing:

In pairs; teams trek across rugged terrain and compete to toss their Turnip a distance of 1km from point A to Point B . Teams must alternate their throwers each throw, and the team that reaches the end in the fewest amount of throws shall be declared the winner.

The Melbourne Turnip Toss Championship 2025 will take place on Saturday, September 27th 2025 in Fawkner Park, South Yarra

Rough itinerary for the day:

2pm: Registration begins
2:30pm: Turnip Toss kickoff (duos)
3:30pm: The longest Turnip competition (singles)
4pm: Best dressed winners announced
4pm: onwards: BBQ and Beers

Winners of the duos, singles and best dressed competitions will earn one of a VERY limited edition series of Melbourne Turnip Toss 2025 wide brimmed bush tucker hats.

Turnips will be shattered, shields will be splintered, and prizes will be given to the bravest Turnip Tossers. And of course there will be plenty of pints and chats and laughter to be had after with friend and foe alike.

All proceeds from the day will be donated to the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team, and amazing group of volunteers who were first responders to the seen of Harry's crash on 20/06/2024.

Grease those fleshy taproot vegetables and warm up those rotator cuffs because on September 27th, we toss for GLORY.

Strictly B.Y.O.T. (Bring your own turnip). Organisers on the day to inspect all turnips in play to ensure they are regulation standard.
