Melbourne Lockdown Guinness World Record Fund
Hey Melbourne, my name is Luke and I have set up a go fund me to help pay the application fee to have Melbourne recognised by Guinness World Records as the city that has spent the longest time in lockdown since the pandemic began! According to channel 9 this will occur on September 23 when we hit 235 days of hard lockdown!!!

The target is $2000 and this is to pay to have the application given priority assessment. Unfortunately if I had if submitted the application 12 weeks earlier I could have avoided the fee however at that time it looked more likely that we would be also rans in what I now see as the Lockdown Olympics rather than the champions we will soon become.
While I am sure many in Melbourne will be proud of the city’s new title as Worlds Greatest Lockdown City, the reality is that many people have sacrificed a lot for us to get here with kids in particular paying a big price.
Not going to school, missing childcare, not seeing their friends, missing heaps of sports and being stopped from going to playground are all things that they have given up over the 16 months. Although a lot of the sacrifices that kids made were unavoidable the sad truth is that making them has had a significant impact on all of our children. Given this I would like the recognising of the Melbourne Lockdown with a Guinness World Record to serve as a reminder of the sacrifice they have made and for it to motivate us to do our best to help ensure that the impact of the lockdowns on their futures is a small as possible (I’m particularly concerned about their mental health with there being far too many stories of kids struggling to cope). To that end, any money that is raised in excess of the target amount will be donated to Kids Helpline Australia. If the target amount is not reached then whatever has been contributed will also be donated to Kids Helpline (I’m sure they could certainly use the funds)
Cheers for your support,
Luke
