I have recently been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma that has metastasized to my brain. The tumors in my brain have left me partially paralyzed on my left side. At my diagnosis, I had Silver Summit Insurance, which was wonderful. Unfortunately, we're no longer eligible for Silver Summit Insurance because my husband makes just $20 too much a month to continue with Silver Summit Insurance, so we had to go with his employer's insurance, which is Blue Cross Blue Shield. This insurance has a high deductible and high out-of-pocket costs, basically requiring us to spend an enormous amount of money on my medical bills, needed scans and tests, disability assistance aids, etc. Blue Cross Blue Shield has even denied to pay for my immunotherapy treatment medicines for whatever reason, to the tune of $1,000 a month out of pocket. I have only one functional arm, so it's hard for me to manually maneuver a wheelchair; therefore, I requested to get an electric chair, which they also denied without a valid reason. Now I'm no longer able to work to contribute financially. It is a depressing thought to realize a person suffering is due to lack of financial stability. This mental toll is devastating. I have lost my zest for life and independence. Thank God for my daughter and my granddaughter; they keep me going. But as I sit here writing this, I realize my only viable option really is to wait to die uncomfortably and unnecessarily because I can't afford my medical treatment.
