melanite's top surgery fund
Donation protected
hey, there my name is melanite & I'm 30 years old, queer non-binary yoga space holder. it took a long time to be able to find a word to express my identity & how I feel on the inside. although I didn't have the words till a few years ago, I’ve suffered from dysphoria since I was 12 and over the last few years I have been doing some work that has led me to my truth & my choice to get top-surgery.
THE SURGERY:
with the support of my friends & therapist, I was able to find a surgeon that meets my needs and set my date for July 22nd of this summer. unfortunately my insurance does not cover gender-affirming care and I have to pay out of pocket. I went with Dr. Mosser's because he is a Non-Binary Top Surgery most surgeons only refer to it as Female to Male Top Surgery or male to female top surgery.
"There are a huge number of valid expressions of gender which fall within the broad category of non-binary. Similarly, there are several top surgery features where the result could be modified to a patient’s liking so they hold the results toward whatever it is that they personally need to match their gender identity" -Gender condition center

THE RECOVERY:
In getting surgery from Dr. Mosser, I will be traveling to his practice in San Francisco, CA, and stay at least a week post-op. After my surgery, I will be placed in a compression vest with drains collecting a fluid build-up inside my chest. It is important that I take that week to do practically nothing but rest, let my body do the healing process. I will then have a one-week post-op appointment, where I will finally get to see my chest outside of the vest and have my drains removed. For a successful recovery, it is essential that I do not do any extraneous movement, heavy lifting, and my arms will essentially be by my sides for two /three weeks post-operation. Dr. Mosser suggests not lifting arms above the head for at 6months for the scares to heal.
THE BREAKDOWN:
Chest Surgery: $7,200
Anesthesia Fee: $1,050
Facility Fee: $2,000
Biocorneum (50g) $150: 1 units @ $150.00/unit
Fees for prescriptions and labs can vary which is why they
cannot put them on my quote.
The estimated cost for the
pathology fee is about $600
Travel (car rentel + flight) : $1,500
Housing: $1000
After Care Supplies and Medication: $500

this will cover my surgery, my stay in Cali & travel back for myself + the person that will be taking care of me, things I might need while healing, some time away from teaching, since my work is movement of the body.
HOW TO SUPPORT
helping me on this self-journey would be life-changing in so many ways that are not just physical appearance, it'll also improve my emotional and mental health, dysphoria takes a toll on all these aspects of my life. This surgery is my freedom to fully be able to live in my body without consent triggers feelings of agitation, irritation, and a lot of the time an overwhelmed nervous system that I have been working on healing through yoga practices. I plan on donating anything that is leftover to someone that is raising funds for their gender-affirming surgery.
you can support by donating & sharing with those you know. if your donating please feel free to hit me up on ig @melanitegonzalez and ill be happy to offer a free virtual or in-person yoga session.
