MELANIE'S STORY:
My name is Melanie Omega and this is the story of my fight with cancer.
During my first trimester of pregnancy, I was diagnosed with a rare kind of Breast Cancer. Tripple negative as the doctors say. A rare type that adapts to medication.
I was advised to focus my medication for my cancer but I could not allow our God given blessing to suffer serious side effects of the medication. My Husband and I have been trying for so long and at my 37 years of age, it would be impossible to have another angel.
Over the next few months, my baby was severly undernourished as my cancer was taking alot of the nutrients. Yet her heartbeat was strong, and that was enough.
During the 8th month of my pregnancy, I was rushed to the hospital as I was bleeding severly, due to the blood thinner medication I was taking for my gestational heart condition.
The Doctor asked my husband to prepare and as it could either be me or my baby alone can survive. But I was confident that despite her weak physical condition our baby had a strong heart and she would fight with me.
I gave birth to a premature baby girl. Severly undernourished yet her heart beat strong and loud.
After I gave birth I had to do undergo chemotherapy immediately in Ormoc City to manange the growing tumor.
Over the next few months my baby recovered as I was battling cancer. Even with the treatment and medicine,my tumor grew bigger. Last October in the heat of the pandemic, we had to leave our baby behind in the care of her grandmother for her safety so we can go to another island where the hospital can offer advanced medication. We were unable to spend our first christmas together as a family.
After a series of tests in Cebu,my stage 3 cancer progressed to stage 4 Metastatic breast cancer.
Over the next few months of agressive radiation therapy and alternating chemo our resources have severly been depleted despite the best efforts of our Family and friends.
I know we are in the most challenging times because of the pandemic but I am humbly asking you to please help us with my battle against this terrible disease. Your help will help extend my life so that I would be able to spend more time with our precious daughter and family back home.
