Kevin and Chris Meland have served in ministry for the past ten years. They began Mountain Haven Marriage Ministry (MHMM) in Colorado because they had a vision...they wanted to bring healing to the lives of those in broken and devastated marriages. After 10 years of couple's counseling (via the couple), and 20+ years of trauma counseling (via Chris), they decided it was time for a sabbath (working in the trauma field has a way of wearing on one's soul).
Less than two weeks ago Chris & Kevin moved back to the Midwest to be closer to family, hoping this would bring a time of healing, rest and respite. Unfortunately, since the time they arrived (early June), Kevin has had a major flare-up of his Chron's Disease, landing him in the emergency room twice already. After multiple tests, scans, and consultations, Kevin is still suffering greatly. And there are additional doctor visits, tests and likely prescriptions to come.
To add insult to injury, there was a glitch with getting their new insurance policy established in a timely manner, which has left the family without insurance coverage during this time. Needless to say, the medical bills are mounting. According to the Mayo Clinic website, "There is currently no cure for Chron's disease, and there is no one treatment that works for everyone. The goal...is to reduce the inflammation that triggers signs and symptoms." To this end, after the first ER visit Kevin was given an anti-inflammatory prescription that was going to cost $3,000...this was not something they could afford without insurance.
Assuming medical billing will be generated within 2-3 weeks after services rendered, payments will be expected within 30 days of receipt. Chris & Kevin are facing substantial and mounting bills from the hospital and doctors. There is no telling what the final amount will be, so the amount of $8,000 is a bit of a guesstimate. The funds raised will help pay for ER and hospital visits, doctor fees, tests, and scans. Any remaining funds will be put towards prescriptions to help diminish Kevin's symptoms.
At this time, Kevin is unable to work (something he is not accustomed to) and will remain in this predicament until his condition goes into remission (which is an undetermined amount of time).
Kevin & Chris have served their communities for so long and helped so many people through difficult times. If you can find it in you heart to help these two amazing people, any amount you can contribute would be a huge blessing.
Thank you so much for considering this circumstance when deciding where to donate your hard-earned money.
